THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD - T. AYOOLUWA OLAORE
In the beginning, God created the light after the creation of the heaven and earth. The light created by God which was called, 'the day' was separated from the darkness (night) and the light in the sky was designed to mark seasons, days and years; providing illumination for the earth.
The light, a source of illumination that stimulates sight and brightness should not have been created or there should not have been a naming of the living creatures in God's likeness as the light of the world if the earth was in its perfect or desirable state at the beginning but it was found formless, empty and beamed with darkness.
Is there a need for another light of the world since the created light is still existing? of course yes because it will be recalled at a time in Genesis chapter six when God saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become and every evil inclination of his thoughts.
This sight made God to be grieved that he had made man and his heart was filled with pain which later lend credence to the intention and execution of the blot out of mankind and all other living creatures but Noah found favour in the eyes of the lord because he stood as a light during his time and that was why it was recorded that he was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time and walked with God.
Right from this time, God has been using diverse means to reconcile humanity before finally sending Jesus Christ to radiate His glory on earth. Remember when Jesus Christ was born, the astrologers said they saw His stars (a kind of light) in the east (Matthew 2:2).
The light of God (Jesus) that has been seen was made to shine through preaching, proclamation, of freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind and release of the oppressed; by so doing Jesus, the light of God illuminates the world but because God is the lord of continuity, He called the born of God the God the light of the world in Matthew 5:14 so that the world will not be in total or partial darkness again, making the world to see our good works and give glory glory to God in heaven (Matthew 5:16)
